I'm not sure if this is the proper way you want us to do this, but since there aren't any other posts on this blog from anyone one else in the class yet, I'm just going to wing it.
So, I read the Dave Hickey reading, and his whole allegory with cars and art was interesting, I guess, but it didn't really click with me, or, to reference his own words, give me that "Huh? Wow!" moment. I think that's just because I don't really get much out of intellectual art discussions, I am easily confused by academic types of writings, especially when it seems the author had too much fun with the thesaurus, so a lot of what was said gets blurred in my head.
That last paragraph though was a zinger, wow, Hickey was really salty with that. I'm not really sure I understand what he was trying to say with the car/art allegory, like I can understand that the two types of productions have a lot of overlap and that's really interesting, but I don't see the big picture behind pointing out this correlation, so I'm wondering if maybe after a class discussion where I can listen to what everyone else thinks I might get a better understanding of Hickey's implications.
